Doris E. Lynch

Doris E. Lynch died peacefully at home Saturday morning, January 28, 2017.

Dottie was born in Savannah, GA on June 13, 1937. She graduated from Savannah High School, attended Sarah Lawrence College, and received a BA degree from Oglethorpe University. She continued her education at the Sorbonne in Paris and received a Master’s degree in Special Education from Georgia Southern University. One of Dottie’s proudest achievements was helping establish the Exceptional Children’s Program in the Chatham County public schools.

A voracious reader, Dottie was President of the Live Oak Public Library Foundation Board, chairman of the LOPL Gala, and volunteered for a number of years at the Children’s Book Festival. She also served as one of the first docents at the Telfair, served on the Telfair Board, and was President of the Telfair Academy Guild. She was a board member of the Council on World Affairs and Georgia Public Broadcasting. Dottie was a supporter of the Savannah Music Festival, Savannah Children’s Choir, and the Free Enterprise Circle of Junior Achievement. Dottie was a lifelong member of Congregation Mickve Israel.

Most important in Dottie’s life was her family and friends, and she especially loved boating with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Joel, her son and daughter-in-law Bill and Lane, and two grandsons Jim and Alex. She was pre-deceased by her son Jim and her daughter Ellen.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Bonaventure Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, January 31st at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

So, so sad to hear of Dottie's passing. She was an amazing spirit, loved by all of our family, and always a shining light despite the trials that life offered. A true inspiration to everyone who really knew her. As my mother's dear friend, I was honored to have known Dottie for all of my life, and her presence is greatly missed already, and always will be. Words fail, but my deepest sympathies to you Joel, and Bill, and family. We miss her so, xGeorgia

Dear Joel and Family: We loved and admired Dottie so very much, and we are grateful for her decades of love for us. We are saddened to hear of her death, and send you our deepest sympathy. Because we are out of the country, we will be unable to attend her memorial service. We regret this and promise to share the time of remembrance with you in our hearts. My deepest condolences go out to your family, it's never easy losing a loved one. You might take comfort in God's promise found at Revelation 21:4 where he says "he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." This verse gave me some hope when I experienced loss, I pray it will do the same for you. May your warm memories also give you strength to endure this hard time.
